Born: 1452, 2nd October.

Place of Birth: Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire.

Died: 1485, 22 August at the Battle of Bosworth, Leistershire. Buried at Grey Friars, Leicester 25th August. Reinterred at Leicester Cathedral, 14th March 2014.

Parents: Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York and Lady Cecily Neville.

Marriages: Ann Neville, 12th July 1472, daughter of 16th Duke of Warwick and Ann Beauchamp.

Children: Legitimate, Edward of Middleham, Prince of Wales (died aged 10). Illegitimate, John of Gloucester and Katherine, Countess of Huntingdon,

Occupation: King of England, Lord of Ireland.

Notes: Richard III was the last king of the House of York and the last of the Plantagenet dynasty (Plantagenet originates from the lands of Anjou in France). His defeat and death at the Battle of Bosworth Field, the last decisive battle of the Wars of the Roses, marked the end of the Middle Ages in England.

The death of Richard at Bosworth, effectively ended the Plantagenet dynasty, which had ruled England since the reign of Henry ll. Richard's nephew, Edward, Earl of Warwick, who was the son of Richard's brother George (Duke of Clarence), was executed in 1499, by Henry Vll.
