A picture showing the progress on the LMS Duchess, City of Lichfield on 10
August 2010. A few more hours work required.
This is a 'Hymek' Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive (later known as Class
35), built by Beyer Peacock in Manchester. This loco, D7040 was brought into
service on the Western Region of British Railways in April 1961. Since they
did not fit into BR's chosen diesel-electric technology, they were withdrawn
in the 1970s. Of the 101 locomotives built, four have been preserved.
It is the
first off the shelf model in 'O' gauge I have purchased. It ran very well
straight out of the box. Following running in, I have fitted a decoder,
which together with controlling the motor also controls the lighting in the
train reporting panel (illuminated in the photograph) and the rear lights.
The lights can be controlled individually so that the appropriate panel and
rear lights can be operated. Fitting this type of decoder required learning
new programming and wiring skills.
