Occupation: Bricklayers labourer. At the time of his marriage (1878), John was a gentlemans servant based at Raglan Barracks, Devonport.
Notes: John's wife Georgina was born in Exeter, Devonshire as was son John Edward Henry. Georgina died in Farncombe, Surrey, 7th February 1884, from Child Birth Peritonitis, after the birth of son Joe. On her death certificate, John's occupation was noted as Town Sweeper. 1891 Census John was living at 3 Raleigh Place, Godalming, Surrey, with children John Henry, Lillian Maud, George Frederick and Joe. In the 1901 Census we found John living with his sister Sarah (then Sarah Spittles) in Harts Lane, Godalming. Also in the 1901 Census, John's daughter Lillian Maud was boarding with the Borras family at 325 Stoughton Road, Stoke Next Guildford. In the 1911 Census, John was in the Guildford Union Workhouse. He was living at Walnut Tree Close, Guildford, at the time of his death.
John's daughter was baptised Lillian, but it often appears in online documents as Lilian.
John's mother-in-law Mary Ann Edworthy, nee ?, was born in Cork, Ireland.
