Martha Massey

Born: 1856.

Place of Birth: Long Parrish, Yorkshire.

Died: 9th January 1915, Keighley, Yorkshire.

Parents: Adam and Ann Massey, nee ?.

Marriages: Albert Edward Schoon 20th July 1878 at the United Methodist Free Church, Keighley.

Children: Sarah Ann, 1879.


Notes: 1851 Census family living at 95 Bull Hill, Haworth, Yorkshire. 1861 Census family living at 156 Castle Hill, Keighley, Yorkshire. 1881 Census Albert, Martha, daughter Sarah Ann and Albert's niece Sarah Alice Schoon (sometimes spelt Sara, father John L. Schoon) are living at 61 Carlton Street, Yorkshire.

In the 1911 Census, Martha Schoon, nee Massey, was found in the Keighley Union Workhouse. It included an Infirmary in which she was a patient.

Martha died of Phthisis Pulmonalis, a tuberculosis of the lungs with progressive wasting of the body, in the workhouse infirmary. Her death was recorded by her sister Elizabeth. On the death certificate it states she was the wife of Albert Edward Schoon, so it would appear they never divorced, following his move to the United States. She had been living at 8 Grange Street, Keighley, which was the home of her sister Elizabeth and family.
