Walter Flanders

Born: 1883, 7th August.

Place of Birth: Keighley, Yorkshire.

Died: Killed in action 12th April 1918 in Flanders, France. Serving as Guardsman 12751, 2nd Battalion Irish Guards. He rests in Aval Wood Military Cemetery, Vieux-Berquin in Flanders, in Plot I (Roman numeral one). BB.33.

Parents: William Benjamin and Elizabeth Flanders, nee Massey.

Marriages: Beatrice Moore on 24th March 1913 at the Parish Church in Keighley, Yorkshire. His brother George William was a witness.

Children: Albert 1913.

Occupation: Time Keeper.

Notes: At the time of his marriage he was living at 8 Grange Street, Keighley.

In the War Diary of the 2nd Battalion Irish Guards for April 11th 1918, is the following entry "11th April 1918 Buses arrived about 8 am the brigade enbused and proceeded to Strazeele see narrative for details of 12th to 14th". Unfortunately, that narrative was not available, but this was Walter going to his last battle, click here to see details of Aval Wood Military Cemetery, his last resting place.
