Notes: 1851 Census family living at 95 Bull Hill, Haworth, Yorkshire. 1861 Census family living at 156 Castle Hill, Keighley, Yorkshire. 1881 Census Albert, Martha, daughter Sarah Ann and Albert's niece Sarah Alice Schoon (sometimes spelt Sara, father John L. Schoon) are living at 61 Carlton Street, Yorkshire. In the 1891 Census the family were again at 67 Carlton Street, with them was neice Sarah Alice Schoon. It appears Sarah Alice later moved to the USA and became a Citizen (as did Albert Edward, see below), but returned to the UK in 1934 and 1949 for visits. On each occasion she went to an address in Oldham, the town of her birth. In the 1911 Census, Albert's wife Martha was found in the Keighley Union Workhouse. It included an Infirmary in which she was a patient. Albert registered his daughter Sarah Ann's birth and gave her mothers details as Martha Schoon, formerly Matthew. A mystery since on their marriage certificate it states Martha Massey. How could that change within nine months?
In the United States census of 1900, Albert Edward was living in Columbia, Pennsylvania. With him as a Mrs. Elizabeth Schoon and a Mary Bird divorcee with 3 children. It was stated he had been married for 5 years. So was he married again, despite still being married to Martha?. Albert was working as a carpet weaver. Albert was working as an Overseer at Booth Mill in Lowell, Massachusetts, USA, at the time of his death (1914). His death was registered by Mrs. Elizabeth P. Schoon, He became an American citizen on 30th September 1904. We found one Albert E. Scoon on the passenger list of the SS Ethiopia, which sailed from Glasgow to New York on 25th July 1895.
