In the 1901, Census he was lodging in Grant Street, Birmingham with the Herbard family and was a railway clerk. In the 1911 Census, he was lodging with his father and mother in law in Erskine Street, Birmingham, together with wife Alice and children Frederick and Norman. He was employed as a railway clerk.
