Born: 1892, 2nd December.

Place of Birth: Blenkinsopp Castle, Northumberland.

Died: 1917, 15th April. Was drowned when the Arcadia, a troop transport was torpedoed in the Aegean. He was on his way to take up an appointment in Egypt. Crathorne is buried or commemorated at the Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, Greece.

Parents: Ernest Lambert Swinburne Charlton and Edith Anne, nee Parkyns.

Marriages: Annie Charlotte Ellen Miller, 6th July 1916 at St Mary's (RC) Church, Cadogan Gardens, London.

Children:

Occupation: In 1914, commissioned into 6th King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Later that year he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps and trained as a pilot. He attained the rank of Major, which he was at the time of his death. He was twice Mentioned in Dispatches. The second time, following his actions at the time of the sinking of Arcadia.

Notes: Crathorne was privately tutored and then went to Paris to study art and architecture.

Crathorne's wife Annie Charlotte, married again in 1920 to John Bentley Foster. Annie Charlotte died 2nd November 1943 in Northumberland. She was the daughter of John Alexander Miller of Edinburgh.
