1789 Richard Hattersley founded a business
making nuts and bolts. Later set up another company to develop technology
for the textile industry. This became George Hattersley and Sons.
1800 Established the Northbrook works for the company.
1829 After Richard's death the business was run by is son George.
1834 The first power loom was made at Northbrook works. This was destroyed
its way to the customer in Bradford.
1866 The first revolving box loom was made.
1869 Death of George Hattersley.
c1876 The Dobby or Heald Machine was patented, known as the "Keighley
Dobby."
Became the producer of hundreds of different sizes and types of looms.
World-wide reputation for wool-preparing machinery.
1888 Private company. The business continued in the control of the original
family.
1914 Manufacturers of looms and other textile machinery. Specialties: looms
and preparing machinery of every description. Employees 1,100.
1921 The Hattersley Standard Loom designed and built by the company, sold in
its thousands.
1930s Progress continued and when Rayon (man made silk) was invented near
Keighley, a specially developed Hattersley Silk Loom was used by the Rayon
fabric manufacturers.
1961 Textile machinery manufacturers also smallwares, webbing, lamp wick
manufacturers. Makers of the first power loom and "Heald" or "Dobby"
machine. 450 employees.
1971 The narrow fabric unit changed its name to Hattersley (Narrow Fabrics)
Limited.
1884 Closure of the machinery manufacturing business.
2007 Acquistion of Aladdin Sales and Marketing. The company now trades under
the name of Hattersley Aladdin Limited
