Notes: Having married in 1894, in the 1901 Census Samuel and family were living at 83 Stowe Street, Litchfield. However, his daughter Harriet was living with the Saunders family at number 71 and was listed as their niece. In the 1911 Census the family were living at 43 Stowe Street, Litchfield.
Samuel 1894 got involved with the law in 1894 when he gave evidence at the Litchfield Police Court. He had seen one Charles Davies drop a stolen decanter and afterwards go into a cycle manufacturer and steal a parcel of pedal rubbers. Following this evidence the defendant pleaded guilty.
In 1909 Samuel and wife Betsey were charged with neglecting their twins William and George, in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering, resulting in the death of William. Samuel as sentenced to one months hard labour and Betsey was sent to prison for six months.
