Lucretia's father David, was one of a group, that went to abduct the
Scottish Regent Lennox, at Sterling on 4th September 1571. He was shot to death, whilst
taking away Lennox, who was also killed. For his treason, he was stripped of his estates.
The family name Spens is its old form and is spelt Spence in its modern
form.
