Tender side view
Castle tender rear view
23 August 2014. After a short break from modeling, I decided to get back into the swing by building a model of the Great Western Railway Castle Locomotive, 5043 Earle of Mount Edgcumbe, starting with the tender. I bought the kit almost two years ago. The tender has two distinct sections, the chassis and the body. The picture above shows the side view, the left hand shows the front view (the area where the fireman does most of his work) and the right hand picture shows the rear view of these two sections brought together. You will see that the metal work will need much cleaning prior to undercoating.
Incidently, this was the locomotive that pulled the Bristolian train that my three grandsons and I rode together. Details of that day out can be read in Family story number 4.
