The photograph shows the progress made on the LMS Brake Third Class Coach
(as of 25th September 2010). There is much outstanding work, which includes
fitting out the interior with seating, the fixing of door handles and grab
rails. A major decision is centred on whether I can steal myself to apply
the gold lining around the windows and the long panels below the windows,
together with the number 3 on each of the doors.
October 2010. One of the locomotives currently under construction is an
LNWR/LMS 0-8-2 Coal Tank and the picture above illustrates the part completed
chassis. This loco will have 3 of the 4 pairs of driving wheel axles running in
Horn Blocks equipped with ball races, one pair will be fixed. The picture on the
left below, shows the components for one pair of Horn Blocks. The picture on the
right below, shows those components made up as a completed pair of Horn Blocks.
The pairs of Horn Blocks will be inserted into the three elongated holes of the
chassis and the wheel axles inserted through the centre of the ball
races. This arrangement allows the wheels to move up and down, under control of
the springs and kept the wheels in contact with any uneven track work. Thereby
giving consistent running of the locomotive, whilst the ball races allow the
axles to rotate more freely.
