The finished 'Freshwater with Machinery Waggon and Brake Van
This is the finished 'Terrier, 'Freshwater', in company with a machinery wagon and brake van (also kit built and painted). The loco livery is that of a loco working on the Isle of Wight in 1948. Terriers were built for the London Brighton & South Coast Railway, which was absorbed into the London & South West Railway, which in turn was a constituent company of the Southern Railway from 1923 to 1948 when British Railways came into being. It is true to say none of the stock looked this pristine in 1948, but preservation railways do generally run their stock in this condition.

Though at times during the build of the Terrier 'Freshwater' IOW engine number 8, I had doubts whether it would be completed, due either to lack of patience or skill, I am very pleased I persevered. As a result, I attended two further weekends at Hobby Holidays, that covered other aspects of building loco kits (including soldering and chassis building). Following this training two other kits have been built and await finishing. A third loco kit, meant for experienced modellers has been purchased is currently around 80% built.

'Freshwater' as repatriated, now just No. 8
This is 'Freshwater' IOW number 8 after being brought back to the mainland in 1948.
Her name plate has been removed, so she is now plain number 8.
So that was the story covering the build of 'Freshwater', on the next page we start on a much more complex kit, that of an LMS 'Super D'.
